The Norwalk Mentor Scholarship

The Norwalk Mentor Scholarship Fund was founded by Dr. Susan G. Weinberger in 1991.  Dr. Weinberger started the first school-based mentoring program, over 30 years ago, in Norwalk, CT.  It was the first of it's kind in America.  Dr. Weinberger saw that the children of Norwalk could benefit by having a mentor in their lives and she started the program in which local corporations and business would allow employees (as well as individuals from the community, called "Diamonds") to meet with children in the local public schools one hour a week.  This innovate thinking is now the foundation of so many mentoring programs across the country.  Dr. Weinberger also felt that it would be critical to continue to support these students beyond high school graduation, in the way of scholarships for college, and to meet that need, The Norwalk Mentor Scholarship Fund was created.

Since then, The Norwalk Mentor Scholarship Dollars for Scholars has grown and now directly impacts the lives of numerous students that attend Brien McMahon High School and Norwalk High School, enabling them to go on and pursue post-secondary education.  Students from the fore-mentioned two schools who graduate from high school and who are still maintaining a relationship with their mentor are eligible for scholarships from the Norwalk Mentor Scholarship Dollars for Scholars.
